    Ordinary Seaman (OS) – Job Description

    🚢 Role Overview

    An Ordinary Seaman (OS) is an entry-level deck crew member on a ship. This role is the starting point in the deck department, where you assist senior crew (like Able Seamen and officers) in maintaining the vessel, handling equipment, and supporting navigation operations.

    ⚓ Key Responsibilities

    🧹 Deck Maintenance

    • Clean, wash, and paint decks and ship structures
    • Remove rust and perform basic maintenance
    • Maintain ropes, wires, and deck equipment

    🪢 Mooring & Anchoring Operations

    • Assist in tying and untying the ship at ports
    • Handle ropes and cables during docking/undocking
    • Support anchor operations

    👀 Watchkeeping Duties

    • Act as a lookout for obstacles, ships, or hazards
    • Report sightings to the officer on watch

    🧰 General Assistance

    • Help Able Seamen and deck officers
    • Assist in cargo operations when required
    • Perform emergency duties (firefighting, lifeboat drills)

    GP rating , Indian Watch Keeping

  • Experience Requirement

    Atleast one sail
